Ottawa extends several COVID-19 benefits

Ottawa is extending multiple COVID-19 benefits that were set to expire in September.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says the wage subsidy and the rent subsidy are being extended for an extra thirty days.

The Canada Recovery Benefit, the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit and the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit are also being extended for the same amount of time.

All of the benefits were originally scheduled to expire on September 25th, but they will now run until October 23rd.

The extensions come with many concerned about the spread of the Delta variant.

Reservoir Rd closed for fastball championship in Yellowknife

Yellowknife city officials announced that Reservoir Road will be closed beginning Friday. Reservoir Road from Wıìlıìdeh Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning  at 9 a.m. until Monday.

Crews say hot, dry conditions increasing wildfire activity in N.W.T.

Wildland crews continue to battle wildfires concentrated in the Dehcho and Sahtu regions, but fire activity is also increasing in the South Slave and in the North Slave regions. Wildfires near Behchoko and Gameti saw increased growth due to weather conditions. On Wednesday, NWT Fire issued a special bulletin after a wildfire was spotted close to Fort Resolution.
