34 COVID-19 cases in YK related to cluster; six more probable

There are now 34 cases of COVID-19 in Yellowknife connected to the outbreak at N.J Macpherson. Another six cases are waiting to be confirmed.

The GNWT has issued two more public exposure notices in the city related to the outbreak.

Anyone who attended Bullocks Bistro on April 30th from 1-2:45 p.m. are now a contact of COVID-19 and must isolate immediately for 14 days. Members of their households must also isolate immediately for 14 days.

Anyone who attended Bruno’s Pizza & Donair on April 29th from 3:30-4 p.m. is seen as a potential contact and is asked to self-monitor and get tested if symptomatic.

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Kami Kandola says they are actively reaching out to inform contacts.

There are now 38 active cases of COVID-19 in the territory. Two cases remain active at Ekati Mine and another two at Imperial Oil in Norman Wells.

Liidlii Kue, Fort Simpson evacuees accessing health services in Yellowknife

With an evacuation order issued for Liidlii Kue / Fort Simpson, the local Health Centre has shifted to emergency on-call services only. Health and Social Services staff are on site at the Multiplex in Yellowknife as well as through the primary care health services in the city. Evacuees from the Liidlii Kue (Fort Simpson) are heading to Yellowknife after a wildfire spotted close to the airport Friday spread. An evacuation order was issued Sunday night. In a message on Sunday, Yellowknife city officials said the Multiplex has been activated as a reception and lodging centre for evacuees and will be closed to the public until further notice.

More than 50 new wildfires spotted in N.W.T. since Friday

Since Friday, more than 50 new wildfires have been detected in the N.W.T. and a community placed on an evacuation order Sunday night. Wildland firefighters mobilized aggressive responses to wildfires in the Dehcho within 7 km of the Fort Simpson airport and another within 12 km of Wrigley. Another lightning-caused fire was detected about 19 km from Hay River, within the 2023 burn area. Wildland firefighters are also actioning a fire last measured within 19 km of Hay River.

An evacuation order has been issued for Liidlii Kue and Fort Simpson after a wildfire broke out near the airport on Friday. Evacuees from the two communities are being welcomed to the city of Yellowknife, to take shelter at the Multiplex at 41 Kam Lake Road.
