Registration open for swimming lessons in Hay River this week

Swimming lessons in Hay River are set to start up again, with registration opening up this week.

Director of Recreation Stephane Millette says the town has had quite a few phone calls already about the lessons, which are set to start up next week.

“It seems like the community was eager to see those return,” he said in a town council meeting on Monday.

Back in December, Millette had told council the CPHO’s Office had put a pause on accepting exemptions for COVID-19 restrictions, rejecting Hay River’s application for an exemption from COVID-19 restrictions to restart swimming lessons.

But an application for an exemption was accepted in February, with recreation staff planning for the return of swimming lessons since then.

The swim club is also starting up next week, with two sessions a week.

Millette says family swim times are being expanded, as people are having to be put on a waitlist for the current slots, due to high demand.
