YK State of Emergency extended

The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Paulie Chinna has extended the State of Emergency in Yellowknife under the Emergency Management Act.

The extension continues through March 25.

This State of Emergency was initially implemented so the territorial government could take over the space in the Mine Resources Building and start a temporary day shelter.

The space was needed as a number of residents were displaced from the regular day shelter, run by the NWT disabilities council, because of physical distancing restrictions.

Chinna says the GNWT is continuing its efforts to protect the health of the residents of the NWT.
