Edward Sangris will retain his position as Yellowknives Dene First Nation (YKDFN) Dettah Chief following Monday’s election in the community.
Preliminary poll results show Sangris claiming 210 total votes compared to Shirley Tsetta’s 88 and Nuni Sanspariel’s 62.
With the win, the incumbent Sangris wins another four-year term. He was first elected as chief in 2007 following a lengthy run on band council.
This marks the second time Sanspariel has unsuccessfully challenged Sangris for the post, after coming up short in the 2011 election as well.
Next up is the election for 10 councillors from Dettah and N’Dilo, which will take place on June 15.
