Canada Post delays in the north continue

Canada Post has said delays in mail delivery will continue throughout the north for the foreseeable future.

This means packages are taking longer to be delivered, impacting all provinces and territories, the statement adds.

A Canada Post facility in Mississauga was hit with an outbreak of COVID-19 which saw more than 200 positive cases of COVID-19 reported among workers at the facility in January.

A statement released at the time said that facility is a key part of Canada Post’s delivery network, and while the facility remained operational, customers could expect delays.

A notice on Canada Post’s website says that on-time delivery guarantees were suspended on March 18 due to the “unique circumstances we are operating in this year.” The suspensions remain in effect.

“Our network has been challenged throughout the pandemic,” the statement reads. “Since it began, Canada Post has followed the guidance of public health authorities and put important safety measures in place for employees and customers.”

The statement adds that the high demand for parcel this year has also contributed to the delays.

“It’s important to remember that only Canada Post can track packages,” the statement adds.

“That means clerks working at postal outlets don’t know where packages are, or when they will arrive at the postal outlet. They are doing their best to serve the community under difficult circumstances.”
