Dene Nation partnership provides 200 Chromebooks for Indigenous students

A delivery of 200 Chromebooks is being distributed to northern schools as part of the agreement between the Dene Nation and the Mastercard Foundation that will enable Indigenous students in the North to access education.

The $170,000 agreement was announced in June 2020. Grade 12 Indigenous students without internet connectivity in their homes recently received turbo sticks as part of the agreement.

Dene National Chief Norman Yakeleya says staff are hard at work distributing the much anticipated Chromebooks across the territory despite COVID-19 related manufacturing delays.

“It is absolutely critical that we support our most vulnerable with the resources they need. Education is fundamental for the future of our youth,” he adds.

Once the Chromebooks get distributed, it will provide students the most up to date technology to use onsite, and allow schools to loan out their older models for use by students at home.
