299 NWT residents fully vaccinated

The NWT has fully vaccinated 299 residents against COVID-19.

The 299 residents does not include Long Term Care residents and staff at Woodland Manor in Hay River who recently received their second doses on February 8th and 9th.

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Kami Kandola says communities that have already received their first dose of the vaccine can expect second doses to arrive 28 to 42 days after the first dose.

“The GNWT will continue to deliver a second dose to priority populations closer to the 42 day mark to maximize vaccine supply,” she adds.

11 new community clinics were announced today for residents receiving their second dose. The clinics will be going on from February 11th to the 19th.

In total, 12,833 first doses have been delivered to residents, one of three NWT adults.

Minister of Health and Social Services Julie Green says despite the temporary delay of Moderna shipments to Canada, the NWT remains well positioned to receive enough vaccines for 75% of the adult population by the end of March 2021.

“We want to reassure residents that we have a plan in place to optimize our vaccine supply over the coming weeks,” adds Green.

Vaccine dose data continues to be updated weekly on the GNWT COVID-19 website.
