School busses cancelled at two schools in Behchokǫ̀

The cold has cancelled school busses at two schools in Behchokǫ̀.

Bus service has been cancelled at Chief Jimmy Bruneau Regional High School in Behchokǫ̀ and Elizabeth MacKenzie Elementary School.

The busses are not running due to the cold weather. An extreme cold warning for the Hay River region is in effect, after being first declared on Thursday.

Temperatures are set to reach as low as -55 degrees celsius with wind chill.

Environment Canada, the federal agency who declares extreme weather warnings, asks residents to cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Schools are still open and running.
