Hay River council renaming roads to recognize locals

Hay River town council has voted to rename several roads to recognize the contributions of notable residents.

As part of their meeting on Monday, councillors approved changing Fairway Drive to Hoffman Way, and Commercial Road will have its name changed to Grimsrud Road.

The name “Hoffman Drive” was submitted jointly by the board of the Hay River Golf Course and Nordic Centre to recognize the many years of service given to the golf club and Nordic centre by Gary Hoffman.

Hoffman is being recognized for his years of “unparalleled community volunteerism”, which included work with the golf club, the Hay River Curling Club, the Hay River Elks, and the Hay River Community Services Society (TV Society).

The town received two submissions for name changes to Commercial Road.

The request to rename Commercial Road to “Grimsrud Road” came from a past resident who requested that the Town recognize Roy Grimsrud for his past service on the Hay River Fire Department.
