9,500 COVID-19 vaccines administered in NWT

Nearly 9,500 first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have been administered throughout the NWT, according to the latest numbers.

Vaccine clinics have happened in all 33 communities, with future clinic dates still to be released for when second doses will be administered. High demand in Yellowknife saw the GNWT add extra dates for vaccine clinics, because appointments for elderly residents had filled up early.

These numbers mean the NWT has administered more vaccines than four jurisdictions in Canada, including Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and both the territories.

Both Yukon and Nunavut have administered less than half the number of vaccines NWT has, according to the latest numbers.

Yukon reported it had administered 3,952 vaccine doses as of Monday — the day statistics are updated weekly. Nunavut reported 4,723 doses of the vaccine had been administered as of Tuesday morning.
