UPDATE: Yellowknife vaccine appointments for elderly residents fill up, more made available

Update 4:04 p.m.: More dates and times have been added to the Yellowknife COVID-19 vaccine clinic, after appointments had filled up.

More appointments will be available starting 4:00pm on January 21, 2021 for Yellowknife residents who are 60 years of age and older, according to a statement from the NWT Health and Social Services Authority

Extra dates have also been added. Appointments will be available during clinic hours on Monday January 25 through Thursday January 28.

Yellowknife’s vaccine upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinic for elderly residents has already filled up.

There were 1,000 appointment slots available for the clinic running January 18 to 22, which have all been filled, according to a post on the Health and Social Service Authority’s Facebook page.

“We have had very high demand for this clinic,” the post read. “These are filled with the callback requests we have already received so we are fully booked for this week.”

Some calls to the booking phone line were not returned amid the demand. An online book service is being set up to reduce the demand on the phone lines for future bookings.

However, future appointments won’t be able to be booked until the GNWT has more details about its next delivery of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, at which point an updated vaccine clinic schedule will be released. That announcement is expected before the end of the week, according to the health authority.

“We will have enough appointments made available to ensure everyone in the 60+ priority group in Yellowknife has an opportunity,” the Health and Social Service Authority added.
