Police say a man with a gun was found and detained on Yellowknife’s Kasteel Drive earlier on Thursday morning.

Residents reported police setting up a blockade at the top of Gwilliam Crescent and Kasteel Drive.

In a statement on Thursday afternoon, RCMP said they had found a man with a gun behind a house “in a bushy area”.

“The gun was seized and the male was taken into custody without incident,” said police. “There was no risk to public safety during this incident.

“No charges are pending at this time. The investigation is ongoing.”

Witnesses told Moose FM the incident had been swiftly dealt with by police on the scene.

“I just think the town’s on edge these days, with so much going around,” one resident told us. “I came in the house right away, I put my kids in the house, and locked the doors just to be on the safe side.”
