Car flips outside Behchoko, alcohol may have been factor

Behchoko RCMP are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in a single-car rollover that sent six people to hospital Sunday.

Police say the rollover happened early in the morning. The car rolled a number of times before coming to a stop in a ditch on the access road into the community.

Altogether, six adult occupants were transported to the community’s health centre.

Two of whom were discharged and four were transferred to Stanton Hospital in Yellowknife for further assessment.

As part of their investigation, police are trying to figure out if alcohol played a role in the crash.

“We had members on the scene [Sunday] and with all six being treated at the health centre, it was hard for us to determine what was going on,” Sergeant Ryan Snodgrass told Moose FM.

“They were in various stages of shock and were having injuries treated so it’s still something we’re looking into.”

Snodgrass told Moose FM he doesn’t have an update on the condition of the occupants, except to say that their injuries weren’t life threatening.

Police are calling for witnesses of Sunday’s crash to come forward. If you have any information, contact Behchoko RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
