Far North Photo Festival to launch outdoor exhibit in Somba K’e Park

The 2020 edition of the Far North Photo Festival is set to take place from September 11th to the 21st.

The festival, which launched last year, saw huge success with its exhibition in the Centre Square Mall, where over 800 people came to view the exhibit over 5 days and attend workshops with peers and internationally acclaimed keynote mentors.

Due to the restrictions on public gatherings from COVID-19, festival organizers will be taking the exhibit outside at Somba K’e Civic Plaza. The City of Yellowknife is sponsoring the festival, along with the NWT Arts Council. This year’s workshops will be a mix of live-streamed webinars and tutorials that adhere to CPHO regulations.

The goal of the festival is to elevate the voices of northern storytellers and photographers from across the North. The 2020 exhibit will feature documentary photographers from each of the circumpolar nations, as well as photographers from Canada’s northern territories of NWT, Yukon, and Nunavut.

Photographers from across the North have the chance to have their work featured in the outdoor exhibition by submitting their work to the festival’s submission page which launched July 1st at www.farnorthphotofest.com.

Festival organizers encourage all Northern photographers, regardless of skill level, to participate.
