Hay River RCMP say two people are safe after their snowmobile went through the ice west of the town on Monday.
The incident happened near Point de Roche on the shore of Great Slave Lake. Police say the two people were hunters on their way to a camp for goose hunting.
RCMP were able to reach the snowmobilers by helicopter and assess their well-being. In the end, no injuries were reported and the two remained at their destination – which was a cabin in the area.
“The Hay River RCMP would like to caution the public that at this time of the season, ice conditions are hazardous,” police said in a statement.
“Those travelling on the land should exercise extreme caution and always carry emergency equipment.”
