Yellowknife students celebrate Canada Road Safety Week

Yellowknife, NWT – Road Safety Week continues here in the Northwest Territories and across Canada.

The St. Pat’s chapter of Students Against Drinking and Driving, or S.A.D.D, is doing its part for the cause.

Kids were at the Fire Hall in Yellowknife Friday morning, raising awareness about all kinds of unsafe driving.

R.C.M.P “G” Division Traffic Services coordinator Hay River Corporal Todd Scaplen was with them.

“We’re not only talking about drinking and driving. Distracted driving is another bad driving pattern that people don’t seem willing to break.”

Scaplen says driving a vehicle takes undivided attention at all times.

He says in some provinces, distracted driving is the leading cause of death on the roads.
