Fraser Arms shooting ‘targeted attack’ say Yellowknife RCMP

Police in Yellowknife say Sunday’s shooting at the Fraser Arms apartment block appears to have been “a targeted attack”.

One man received a shoulder wound in the incident, which ultimately led to a high-speed police chase across the city, ending on Grace Lake Boulevard around midnight.

“Details of the shooting are still under investigation,” said a police statement issued on Monday afternoon. The gun believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered.

“Evidence from the preliminary investigation indicates that this shooting was a targeted attack. The suspects and the victim are known to one another, and known to police,” the statement continued.

“Many avenues of investigation are being looked at, including any possible ties to gang activity.”

Police say two of their own vehicles were damaged in Sunday night’s lengthy pursuit of the suspect vehicle, a dark-coloured SUV.

Two suspects inside the SUV were arrested, while a third, arrested separately, was later released.

The two remaining suspects were set to appear in court on Monday. The man injured in the attack did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
