Local company supports U8 girls hockey team in Yellowknife

Giving back to the community is very important for Midnight Petroleum. A fundraiser sponsored by the company is doing just that to support Yellowknife Minor Hockey.

Jeremy Richard is the Branch Manager of Midnight Petroleum in Yellowknife.

“We sponsor the Midnight Petroleum U8 girls hockey team in Yellowknife,” Richard said. “Each year we help support the team in any way we can so when we heard they wanted to travel to Surrey BC for a trip, we wanted to find a way to help knock down some costs.”

Richard says that according to the coach of the team, enrollment this year is up from 12 girls last year to 22 girls this year.

“With the cost of travel/hotel being approximately $1500 per player/parent, it makes for a staggering amount of fundraising to get the girls there,” Richard said. “The fundraiser itself is based on our volumes at our gas/diesel card lock at 125 Eagle Drive.  Midnight Petroleum has agreed to donate $0.03/L of all gas/diesel sales from our Yellowknife card lock for the month of December to our U8 girl’s hockey team’s trip to Surrey BC.”

Currently, after nine days, the event has generated $626.19 towards their trip, Richard added.
