The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA), in partnership with the Department of Finance, continues to look for new opportunities to attract nursing professionals to the Northwest Territories.

Through the PracticeNWT brand (www.PracticeNWT.ca), the organization is working to attract health and social services professionals to job opportunities within all three health authorities (NTHSSA, Hay River Health and Social Services Authority, Tlicho Community Services Agency).

“Attraction and the recruitment of health and social services professionals is being carried out through social media, online advertising, active recruitment including recruitment fairs and conferences and print advertising,” Maguire said. “These campaigns consistently reach residents in Alberta as well as other locations across Canada. Over the past year, there has been a concerted effort to attract registered nurses to work in the Northwest Territories, in particular in specialty fields where the heightened need exists.”

Nurses work in an expanded role within the Northwest Territories integrated primary health care system, working as community health nurses, public health nurses, home care nurses and hospital nurses.

Work settings vary from remote community health centres to public health units and secondary and tertiary hospitals, according to the GNWT.

“The Northwest Territories boasts highly competitive salaries and benefits for its nursing staff, as well as opportunities to gain experience in a truly unique setting,” Maguire said. “Our advertising and recruitment efforts promote our outstanding salary and compensation benefits, along with the lifestyle benefits of living in the North, such as access to nature, short commutes, and living in vibrant and tight-knit communities.”

Within the Northwest Territories nurses must be eligible for registration with the Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU). For more information on Nursing Licensing in the Northwest Territories please visit the following site: www.rnantnu.ca.
