Two winners announced in Yellowknife for the Mayor for a day contest

The City of Yellowknife and 100.1 The Moose have announced the winners of the essay contest which will crown two students from Yellowknife as Mayor for a day instead of one.

“It was so hard to choose the winner,” Mayor Rebecca Alty said in an exclusive interview. “There were 38 great submissions.”

The competition was for one aspiring, young politician to become Mayor for a Day. Children in Grades 2 – 12  declared why they want to be Mayor and stated two things they would do to make Yellowknife an even better Community.

It was the first year for this contest in the City of Yellowknife and instead of choosing one winning entry Mayor Alty chose two students from Yellowknife as the winners:

  • Nora Swan a Grade five student.

The winners will be Mayor for the day on Friday, December 6. Mayor Atly personally read through each and every submission to the contest.

The Mayor for a Day will:

•        Be sworn in (unofficially);

•        Be photographed at the Mayor’s desk and in the Mayor’s seat in the Council Chamber;

•        Get a tour of City Hall and other City Facilities, including the FireHall;

•        Shadow Mayor Alty for the day;

•        Have lunch with Mayor Alty;

•        Receive a special City of Yellowknife gift bag; and

•        End the day with an on-air interview with Mayor Alty and Moose FM.

The Moose 100.1 will have full coverage on Friday, Dec. 6, of these two students who will become Mayor for a day and highlight their submissions.
