Registered non-profits have until December 6 to apply for a grant of up to $7,500 for their community projects. The United Way NWT is also seeking applications for one multi-year grant of up to $15,000 a year over three years.

“We’re looking forward to reviewing grants from interested groups,” Paul Gillard, the Community Investment Fund committee chair said. “It’s inspiring to see the strength, passion and dedication to making northern communities stronger.”

Over the past five years, the United Way NWT has provided over $620,000 to non-profit organizations in the Northwest Territories. Funds raised through the multiple payroll donation campaigns are used in the Community Investment Fund. United Way has budgeted for $160,000 in grants to be distributed to non-profits across the North in early 2020 and thanks to the generosity of donors in the NWT.

The United Way NWT funding is focused in three areas:

  • From poverty to possibility: Moving people out of poverty and meeting basic human needs.
  • Healthy people, strong communities: Improving access to social and health-related support services and supporting resident and community engagement.
  • All that kids can be: Improving access to early childhood learning and development programs, helping kids do well at school, and making a healthy transition into adulthood.

All applicants must be CRA-registered non-profit organizations.

“United Way is proud to support non-profits across the NWT,” Tracy St. Denis, United Way NWT Chair told attendees at the September 28 AGM. “With the funds, we have raised here in the north, we were able to help fund twenty non-profits in 2019 with our Community Investment Fund grants.”
