RCMP investigate ENR firearm discharge in Fort Simpson

RCMP are investigating the discharge of an ENR firearm in Fort Simpson, NT.

On Friday, September 20, Fort Simpson RCMP received a call for service to assist a Government of the Northwest Territories Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Officer in tracking a bear within the town’s boundary that posed a safety concern.

The ENR officer discharged his firearm in response to the bear’s aggressive behavior. Shortly thereafter, a man reported he had been injured as a result of the discharge. The injured man has been transferred to Yellowknife for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

RCMP continue to investigate.

The bear was located later and destroyed.
