Seven overdue travellers found safe near Marian Lake

A group of seven travellers from Behchoko en route to Whatì by boat were located safe and sound after being reported overdue on Tuesday, August 27th. The group was reported overdue when they failed to reach their destination.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Whatì RCMP received a call for service regarding a group of travellers who had left Behchoko in the afternoon of Monday, August 26th and were scheduled to arrive in Whatì that same evening.

Whatì RCMP, with the help of Behchoko RCMP, were deployed via helicopter to the Marian Lake area to begin a search. At around 12:30 p.m. on the 27th, they located the boat and all seven travellers, consisting of five men and two women. The travellers were located safe and in good condition.

“We are thankful to our partners and the fact that we have found the boaters in good spirits and uninjured”, states Sergeant Ken Beard, South District Advisory NCO.
