Police are asking residents to use care with replica firearms after an air pistol was mistaken for a genuine one in Yellowknife.

On Sunday night, RCMP responded to a complaint of a man pointing what appeared to be a pistol out of an apartment building window on Con Road.

After police secured the area, it was determined that the man was actually wielding an air pistol.

“An airsoft gun is a type of replica firearm which shoots small projectiles, like a BB gun,” read a statement from RCMP.

“Many replicas are manufactured to look like genuine firearms. The public is cautioned to use airsoft guns and other types of replicas with care.”

Police say no charges are pending and that their investigation is closed.
