Edward Sangris wins 4th term as chief of Dettah

Chief Edward Sangris has been given a fourth term as chief by Members of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. Sangris was first elected chief in 2007, re-elected in 2011, and again in 2015.

According to the preliminary results, released Tuesday morning, Sangris won the election by receiving a total of 133 votes. The release states Sangris is elected as the new chief pending a five-day appeal period.

Challengers Rachel Crapeau and Bobby Drygeese came in second and third place with 106 and 105 votes each.

The election for 10 Councillors from Dettah and Ndilo follows on August 26th.
