Update: NT RCMP advise that, to the best of their knowledge, the phone systems for local RCMP detachment “1111” numbers are operating normally. This includes call forwarding for detachments to the RCMP Operational Communications Centre in Yellowknife at 867-669-1111.
NT RCMP thanks the citizens of NWT for their patience as we work to ensure call lines are operational. We thank our partner agencies for their efforts to address this as quickly as possible.
NT RCMP are advising the public of potential interruptions when calling NWT detachments and the Operational Communications Centre in Yellowknife due to the interruption of service as a result of suspected vandalism to a fibre optic cable on August 12th.
Police are experiencing some technical difficulties, and call service in some communities may be intermittent. The communities affected are Tuktoyaktuk, Fort McPherson, Fort Good Hope, Tulita, Deline, Fort Liard, Fort Providence, Fort Resolution, Norman Wells, Behchoko and Whati. Other NWT communities may experience difficulties as well.
As the phone services are being restored, calls to the local detachment may not go through, or the call may not be automatically forwarded to the OCC. If the matter is non-urgent, the public is asked to attend the detachment during regular working hours. In most detachments, this is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
If the matter is urgent in nature, and the call to the local detachment has not gone through, the public is advised to call the Yellowknife OCC directly at 867-669-1111. Urgent is any situation where public safety is/can be jeopardized, grievous harm may result, there is a life-threatening situation or immediate police attendance is required.
RCMP say their technicians are working with all partners to resolve this situation as soon as possible and that further updates will be provided as required.
