Behchoko police are investigating a motor vehicle incident that claimed the lives of two people on Saturday, July 20th. Police were called to the scene of a crash on Highway #3, near Behchoko at approximately 11:35 a.m. as a vehicle had left the road and rolled over into a nearby pond, near the corner to enter Behchoko.
Both the driver, a 30-year-old man from Behchoko, and the front seat passenger, a 29-year-old woman, also from Behchoko, died at the scene as a result of the incident. Both back seat passengers were able to escape safely from the vehicle. One sustained a non-life threatening injury and got transported to the hospital.
NT RCMP is also working with the NWT Coroner Service in an investigation into this incident, which is ongoing.
The RCMP says their thoughts are with the family and the community of Behchoko at this difficult time.
