Investigation into Grayling Manor shooting incident still ongoing; two men charged

Yellowknife RCMP have charged two suspects as part of the investigation into the shooting incident on May 26th at a downtown apartment building. The two men charged are believed to be connected to criminal activities in the area of Grayling Manor the morning of the incident.

In the early morning hours of May 26th, police responded to a call for service at Grayling Manor on 53rd Street and found a 25-year-old man, who had suffered a gunshot wound. The man was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

General Investigation Section is still investigating and looking for potential witnesses who would have seen suspicious activity on May 26th, in the area of 53rd Street and 50th Avenue, between 12 am and 1 am as there is currently no evidence at this point linking the suspects to causing the victim’s injuries, just that they were in the vicinity.

During the course of the investigation, Yellowknife GIS gathered evidence to proceed with the charges.

“With these arrests, the vice is tightening on the suspects of the shooting incident as our investigation continues” states Corporal Julien Chalifour, Acting GIS NCO i/c.

A 38-year-old man from Yellowknife is charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and mandatory Prohibition Order. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, July 8th.

The other suspect is a 31-year-old man from Yellowknife who is charged with one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, August 20th.

Yellowknife RCMP advises that anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area of 53rd Street and 50th Avenue on May 26th to give them a call at 669-1111.
