Kevin O’Reilly running for re-election in Frame Lake riding

MLA for Frame Lake Kevin O’Reilly has announced his intention to stand for re-election in the Frame Lake riding.

O’Reilly says his priorities for the campaign include action on ‘the climate crisis’ through leadership, legislation, policies and practices. Building a visitor’s centre is also on his list of priorities. He sees the tourism economy, as well as the knowledge economy as future drivers of growth in the territory.

“The future of the North and our youth is in the knowledge-based economy,” he states. “We need an NWT polytechnic university and official recognition for Collège nordique francophone and Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning.”

A long-time resident of Yellowknife, O’Reilly served as a Yellowknife city councillor for nine years. His educational background is in environmental studies and planning.

O’Reilly joins several other political hopefuls in announcing their intent to run for territorial office. Lawyer Caroline Wawzonek is running in the Yellowknife South riding, currently occupied by Premier Bob McLeod. Finance minister and MLA for Inuvik-Twin Lakes Robert C. McLeod announced he will not run for re-election, leaving the field open in this riding.

Feds commit $20 million for new water treatment plant in Hay River

Northwest Territories MP and Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Rebecca Alty has just announced an investment of about $20,100,000 from the federal government for construction of a new water treatment plant in Hay River.
