Drivers should be prepared for smoky conditions along the highway. 511 Alberta warns drivers of reduced visibility along Highway 35 near Steen River.
“Keep headlights on to increase visibility. Travellers are advised not to stop in the fire area and drive with extreme caution.”
Highway 35 is closed south of High Level to the hamlet of Notikewin as crews continue to fight the 230,000 hectare Chuckegg Creek fire. Once drivers reach High Level, they will have to re-route through Highway 58 to Highway 88.
Authorities warn highways may be closed without warning if wildfire conditions change or it is unsafe to travel. For more details on Alberta Highways, see 511 Alberta.
