A fire in the Kam Lake area sent one woman to hospital in Edmonton with serious injuries.

Police say the fire also claimed the lives of two pet dogs. According to the City of Yellowknife, the fire broke out just after 7 p.m. Wednesday in a structure at the Arctic Farmer/Bridgestone Tire lot in Kam Lake, behind the tire shop.

The Yellowknife Fire Division fought the fire at 104 Drybones Drive with seven firefighters and equipment including a pump, tanker and medic vehicle. By the time firefighters arrived, those living in the one-story, 1000 square foot ‘single family dwelling’ had already evacuated. Fire crews were at the scene for just over three hours. RCMP and municipal enforcement were also on scene doing traffic control.

The investigation is now in the hands of the NWT Office of the Fire Marshal, with RCMP assisting.
