Yk middle schoolers to chat with Canadian astronaut

Imagine if you could pick up the phone and call an astronaut.

This is precisely what a group of Yellowknife middle-schoolers will be doing Friday, when they dial up the International Space Station and ask for Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques.

Students from Mildred Hall School will be speaking with Saint-Jacques Friday, where they will be able to video chat ask questions to the astronaut in real time.

Saint-Jacques has been at the International Space Station since December 3rd, 2018 as part of Expedition 58/59.

An engineer, astrophysicist and doctor specializing in family medicine in isolated settings including in Inuit communities in Nunavik, Saint-Jacques has been conducting science experiments and technology demonstrations at the space station. He has also been supporting ‘critical operations and maintenance activities, including robotics and spacewalks’ in his 148 days in space, the mission website states.
