Measles Outbreak has been rescinded

The measles outbreak declared in Inuvik on March 6th has been rescinded as two full incubation periods have occurred without additional cases.

No new cases have been identified since the initial two lab-confirmed cases beginning with the first one on February 13th marking April 16th as the end of the outbreak period.

A Public Health Advisory states that although this outbreak is over, children, adolescents and those born after 1970 are encouraged to get their vaccinations.

“Higher vaccination rates prevent transmission in the community and protect our most vulnerable residents including infants, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems who sometimes cannot be immunized.”
