13 years strong: Memorial Hockey Challenge happening Friday

An annual hockey game honouring first responders fallen in the line of duty is happening this Friday in Yellowknife.

The 13th annual Memorial Hockey Challenge is a by-donation hockey game between an RCMP and a Yellowknife Fire Division team. The event honours firefighters Lt. Cyril Fyfe and Kevin Olson, killed in 2005 while fighting a structure fire, RCMP Cst. Christopher Worden,  killed in Hay River in 2007, as well as all those who have ‘fallen while in service.’

The event takes place Friday, April 5th, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Multiplex. Entrance is $5 for ages 11 and up and free for kids under 10. All money raised goes to the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation.

The foundation says the money will go to ‘cancer care and programming’ at the hospital.
