Snowking’s Winter Festival officially closed

Due to unusually warm temperatures, Snowking’s Winter Festival closed up Saturday night, a week earlier than originally planned.

This is the first time in the festival’s 24-season history that warm weather threatened the castle’s structure. The festival was scheduled to run from March 2 to 31.

The castle on the frozen Yellowknife Bay, suffered too much weather-related damage for events to be safely held in its courtyard. The damages were brought on by incredibly warm temperatures that set March records both in Yellowknife and across much of the NWT.
