New $20K award for northern health research

A new award has been started to help spread health education in the north. Hotıì ts’eeda has announced the Edets’seèhdzà Studentship Award. The award is for a student attending Aurora College, studying health research.

$20,000 comes as a stipend with the award for students interested in participating in a health research project full-time during the summer months, or part time during the school year. Students can apply with a research project in mind, or ask to be paired with a relevant research project.

Hotıì ts’eeda Scientific Director, Stephanie Irlbacher-Fox says health research in the North should be led by Northeners.

“To make that happen, we need to support NWT students getting involved in research. This scholarship allows for students to build the professional skills and confidence necessary for their ongoing involvement in research, ensuring that they and their communities are involved in setting research priorities and making sure results are used to benefit NWT communities and the NWT health system.”

The award is open for application from now until March 15, 2019.
