Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival visits NWT

Vancouver’s International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) invades Yellowknife Thursday night.

A total of eight productions from the Vancouver-based event will screen at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC) starting at 7:30pm.

“There’s a great selection of films coming here,” said Summer Meyers, communications manager with NACC.

The films, which range from three to 40 minutes long, showcase adventure, alpine sports and mountain culture.

This marks the third time the Vancouver festival, which has been in operation since 1998, has travelled to Yellowknife.

To capitalize on the event, NACC has made it a yearly fundraiser for the performing arts.

“All of the funds will go back into NACC programming, outreach programs, equipment and everything else that makes NACC so special to the community,” said Meyers.

Between shows in Vancouver and tour events worldwide, organizers estimate the festival has an annual audience of 30,000 and growing.

Tickets for Thursday’s event cost $22 and can be purchased on NACC’s website or at the box office.
