Update: Behchoko health centre no longer short on nurses

Update: The shortage of nurses posted on the Tlicho government’s website was for one day only, spokesperson with the Department of Health and Social Services Damien Healy confirmed. The Marie Adele Bishop Health Centre is no longer experiencing staff shortages.

The Behchoko health centre is offering only essential services due to a nursing shortage.

“The Marie Adele Bishop Health Centre is experiencing a temporary shortage of nurses. As a result, there will be a reduction in services normally provided to our clients,” a statement posted on the Tlicho government’s website February 15th reads.

No scheduled appointments or clinics are being offered, but a nurse is available for emergencies and urgent cases and can be reached at 867-392-6075.

Staff at the health centre could not comment on the shortage. The Department of Health and Social Services has not yet responded to a request for comment.
