Snow carvers descend onto Yellowknife Bay

Carvers from Europe, the U.S. and Canada are descending onto Yellowknife Bay this week to make their mark in the snow.

The fifth annual snow carving symposium is running from February 21st to 24th and the carvings will remain on the bay throughout the March Snowking’s Winter Festival. Anthony Foiliot, the Snowking, says the quality of Yellowknife’s snow is a big draw for these artists.

“Snow carvers from around the world speak highly of our world-class snow that is beautiful, crisp, clean, and workable.”

Anyone who wants to watch the carvers can do so each day between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. A free public carving workshop is being held on Sunday, February 24th between 1 and 3 p.m. People who want to dig in should bring the following, if they have it: ‘a garden spade, small handsaw and a serrated bread knife.’
