Keep your pets indoors and your skin covered up today, as extreme cold is sweeping Yellowknife, the North Slave and Lutsel K’e regions.

Temperatures near minus 50 are expected throughout the morning, moderating this afternoon.

Environment Canada says extreme cold warnings are issued when cold temperatures or wind chill create elevated health risks. Watch for the following cold-related symptoms: “shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.”
