Fort Liard and Sachs Harbour weather warnings

Fort Liard will see 15 to 20 centimeters of snow Tuesday, while Sachs Harbour will experience extreme cold with wind chill down to minus 55 degrees Celsius.

Environment Canada is warning of heavy snow at times in the Fort Liard region including Nahanni Butte and Sambaa K’e, until late afternoon Tuesday. Conditions can deteriorate quickly and travelers should be aware of reduced visibility and difficulty driving or walking in accumulating snow.

Environment Canada is warning of wind chills of down to minus 55 in the morning and minus 45 in the afternoon in Sachs Harbour. People should be aware of the following cold-related symptoms: ‘shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.’

The warning states people should cover up as frostbite can develop on exposed skin within minutes. There is also a risk of hypothermia in extreme cold conditions.

Next phase of construction begins on new social housing unit
