Large number of toys donated for children of Yellowknife

The Northwestel & Yellowknife Salvation Army 2018 Holiday Toy Drive wrapped up today, December 12th as 203 toys were donated for the holidays.

The Toy Drive is an annual event put on by the retail team at both the Northwestel in Yellowknife and Whitehorse to be able to support the local community and to make sure that kids have toys under their tree for Christmas. The Salvation Army has provided support to families at the Holidays for over 15 years.

Northwestel Retail Store Manager Jennifer Forsythe said the Toy Drive was started in 2005 by one of the RSAs at the Northwestel in Fort Nelson to help their community. The Yellowknife Northwestel has been doing it annually for the past 5 years.

As for the donations, Forsythe said they trickle in from the community as well as from staff members.

“We had our kickoff about a month ago. It’s becoming a known place to drop off toys. We have a lot of donations that come from locals.”

Northwestel was able to make sure that all age ranges from 0-18 were able to benefit from the Toy Drive, not just little children.
