Flags are flying lower today as Yellowknife honours a former President

City flags were flown today at half mast for the day of the funeral of the late George H.W. Bush, who passed away on November 30, 2018.

Mayor Rebbeca Alty said that the standard procedure for City Hall is to follow the protocol of the federal and territorial government when it comes to flags.

“They put out a direction yesterday that they’d be lowering the flags to half mast today so we followed suit.”

Alty noted that they received another notice today that more flags will be lowered tomorrow.

“Today we received notice from them that tomorrow the flags will be lowered to half mast in recognition of national day of remembrance and action on violence against women.”

The 41st President of the United States passed away at the age of 94.
