Winter conditions reminders from city

Winter conditions has arrived in Yellowknife. The city is reminding businesses and residents to keep the sidewalks clear. Any businesses and residences in the Central Business District, Franklin Avenue from Matonabee Street to Old Airport Road and Franklin Avenue from 44th Street to School Draw Avenue is being asked by the City to keep the sidewalk(s) around their properties clear of ice and snow for the safety or pedestrians. Otherwise they can be slapped with a fine or other enforcement action.

The city would also like to remind residents that any snow shoveled from their driveway or portion of their property cannot be placed on the road. However snow shoved from sidewalks can be placed on roads. The city say this is to avoid creating large piles as this creates unsafe driving conditions.

Finally the city is reminding the public who has properties on trucked water and sewer to keep access to their service connection points clear of snow and ice. If the connection points are not accessible, water delivery and/or sewage pump-out may not occur until access problems have been fixed.
