Casting call for luxury car commercial hits Yellowknife

A handful of Yellowknife residents could be featured in an upcoming car commercial.

A casting call was held at Yellowknife’s Explorer Hotel Sunday for a luxury SUV television ad.

Casting associates were looking for Aboriginal men between the ages of 35 and 75 to come out and audition for the roles of two main characters and some extras.

“The story itself takes place in a small secluded town up in the Arctic Circle with the main characters telling the story of an Aboriginal legend of the yeti and how it has terrorized their town,” said Trevor Carroll, a casting associate based out of Vancouver.

“After a while, the yeti leaves the town and a new spirit emerges which is the luxury vehicle which watches over them. So they kind of celebrate it.”

Carroll told Moose FM the first main character, aged 35 to 50, is described as the voice of the village and someone who’s seen a bit more than the rest.

The second, older main character is rooted more in the ancient world than the modern age.

“He’s seen a TV but doesn’t watch it,” Carroll said. “He grew up living completely off the land believing in gods and ancient traditions but his face conveys wisdom as well.”

Carroll, who has casted for programs like Artic Air and Strange Empire, says selected candidates will be flown down toAlberta for filming.

“After we’re done with this first round of casting, we’re going to send everything off to our directors and producers who will make their choices from that and whoever they like will be called back.

“This is probably going to be seen worldwide so this is a really great opportunity for people in Yellowknife.”

The commercial is expected to air later in 2015.
