NWTRPA conference in Yellowknife next week

Over 100 leaders in recreation will be coming to an event in Yellowknife. From Tuesday October 23rd till Thursday October 26th the NWT Recreation and Parks Association will be holding their annual conference, awards banquet and AGM. This event is an important event for recreation professionals, health care workers, educators and more across the territory.

The event will be held at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife and will host speakers from “Qaggiavuut!”, an organization that promotes the preservation and maintanence of Inuit culture and language through the performing arts, and “Bounce Back League”, a program for 8-12 year olds that takes the best part of sport and the power of being part of a team to better equip kids to handle the ups and downs of life.  During the awards banquet, six people from across the Northwest Territories will receive awards for their efforts and achievements in promoting recreation and active living for all northerners. The awards banquet will be held on Wednesday October 24th from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. and the AGM will be on Thursday October 25th from 10:45 a.m. till noon.

The mission of the NWTRPA as provided from them is: “To promote the inclusion of recreation and parks as key to our way of life. They do this by supporting leaders, communities, and partners through training, advocacy, and networking.” For more information about the organization visit nwtrpa.org.
