Fieldhouse reopens to the public today

The city’s Fieldhouse reopens to the public today.

All programs at the Fieldhouse will return to their regular schedule.

The fieldhouse was temporarily being used as an emergency shelter for victims of the apartment fire on Tuesday morning.

The building housed the YWCA office and transitional housing facility, a 33 unit apartment building housing families who cannot access public or market housing.

The Fieldhouse was closed to the public as representatives of the GNWT – Health & Social Services, Municipal & Community Affairs, Education, Culture & Employment, Housing Corporation, Executive & Indigenous Affairs and the City of Yellowknife provided assistance to the affected families.

All families have since been re-housed.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined but RCMP and the Office of the Fire Marshal are investigating.
