Six boaters were rescued after their vessel stalled on Prosperous Lake near Tartan Rapids outside of Yellowknife.
Yellowknife RCMP responded after receiving a report of stranded boaters just after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The boaters did not have any survival gear and were not dressed appropriately for the air and water temperature. Conditions at the time were dark and cold with temperatures below freezing.
RCMP officers with assistance from Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers were able to find the stranded boaters, rescue them and return them safely to shore early on Wednesday morning.
This incident serves as a reminder for the public to be prepared for an emergency on the water or land with fall/winter conditions approaching,” Yellowknife RCMP state in a news release. “Have a plan, practice water safety and encourage others to do the same.”
