Yellowknife breaks more temperature records

The City of Yellowknife managed to break two weather records Tuesday. It set both the minimum temperature and the minimum high temperature for September 11th.

It reached a low of minus 2 degrees, besting the previous record low of minus 1.7 degrees set in 1972. The day also only warmed up to a high 3.2 degrees, another record.

The average low for Yellowknife on September 11th is 4.8 degrees, while the average high is 11.7 degrees. The Environment Canada forecast is calling for more below normal temperatures for the rest of the week.

Liidlii Kue, Fort Simpson evacuees accessing health services in Yellowknife

With an evacuation order issued for Liidlii Kue / Fort Simpson, the local Health Centre has shifted to emergency on-call services only. Health and Social Services staff are on site at the Multiplex in Yellowknife as well as through the primary care health services in the city. Mail service has also temporarily paused for the community.

Yellowknife Multiplex activated as reception and lodging for evacuees

Evacuees from the Liidlii Kue (Fort Simpson) are heading to Yellowknife after a wildfire spotted close to the airport Friday spread. An evacuation order was issued Sunday night. More than 50 new wildfires spotted in N.W.T. since Friday

Wildland firefighters mobilized aggressive responses to wildfires in the Dehcho within 7 km of the Fort Simpson airport and another within 12 km of Wrigley. Another lightning-caused fire was detected about 19 km from Hay River, within the 2023 burn area. Wildland firefighters are also actioning a fire last measured within 19 km of Hay River.

Evacuation Order issued for Liidlii Kue and Ft Simpson

An evacuation order has been issued for Liidlii Kue and Fort Simpson after a wildfire broke out near the airport on Friday. Evacuees from the two communities are being welcomed to the city of Yellowknife, to take shelter at the Multiplex at 41 Kam Lake Road.
